Academy Alarm is an online business run from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Since 2011, we’ve had a web presence, but we’ve been a standard alarm company.
What is a standard alarm company? This is a company that sells alarm systems with contracts. You sign up, and then pay a monthly fee for 3 to 5 years.
This is a common business model in the industry, and it worked well for us. But, recently, we decided we wanted to try a different approach. We’ve decided to offer you alarm systems with professional monitoring with no contracts.
Does this sound like Do It Yourself (DIY), which is another common business model? It’s similar, but not quite the same. You have to install a DIY alarm system yourself, and it often doesn’t come with professional monitoring.
We will send a professional installer to your house or place of business. They will use their experience to install the system properly, and also train you how to use it. Then we’ll also professionally monitor the system for you.
This is a monitoring subscription, though, not a contract. You can cancel it at any time with only 30 days notice. Some DIY companies with professional monitoring still make you sign a contract. So that’s another difference between us and them.
